Why your back hurts while you run? Or after your run gets over? Low back is very common occurrence in long distance runners, there are several reasons associated with it. Before treating the exact cause of the pain it’s important to thoroughly evaluate it. The cause can be simple as your inactivity or weakness of your buttock muscle (gluteus maximus). When you run your body moves through various phases of running gait, for efficient running you require adequate mobility at your hip and stability at your spine during each gait cycle. In cases where the mobility at the hip and stability at your back is not adequate the curve your lower back region is exaggerated which leads to tilting of the hip in front. All these compensations make your buttock muscle difficult to engage or support while running, which may lead to over activity of your lower back spinal muscle. - [BACK PAIN IN PREGNANCY](https://physioqinesis.com/back-pain-in-pregnancy/): All the happiness and the good news pregnancy bring in woman’s life it also comes with the fair share of aches and pains with it. Another challenge was to balance a head on top, without obstructing the birth canal and to get the torso balanced above our feet, the spine has to curve inwards (lordosis), creating the hollow of our backs, hence creating a ‘S’ shaped curve. - [CHANGES IN SPINE DISC OVER TIME](https://physioqinesis.com/changes-in-spine-disc-over-time/): Our spine consists of bones called vertebrae which are stacked on one another and has a rubber like disc in between which acts like a shock absorber. As we age wear and repair happens in our entire body. Just like knees and hips go into series of wear and repair, same thing can happen to our spine. As we age changes in our spinal disc and the structures around it is nothing but our body’s adaptation overtime. Our disc is made up of inner fluid and outer firm surface which absorbs the load and keeps our spine flexible helping us to bend forward and backward and to twist and turn our body. With age these discs dry out and decrease in size which leads to cause friction in between the bones resulting in bone spurs {1}. - [UPPER CROSS SYNDROME](https://physioqinesis.com/upper-cross-syndrome-2/): The kinetic chain describes the interrelated groups of body segments, connecting joints, and muscles working together to perform movements and the portion of the spine to which they connect. The perfect example of kinetic chain is Upper Cross Syndrome. This type of syndrome refers to tightness in one area leading to weakness in other areas, which can affect posture and overall joint function and mobility. People may have a cervical rib on the right, left or both sides {1}. Most of cases of cervical ribs does not cause any symptoms, most of the time they are accidental findings on the x rays. In rare cases they may cause problems contributing to compression of the nerves, arteries, or veins in the passageway from the lower neck to the armpit (thoracic outlet syndrome). A cervical rib represents a persistent fusion of the bone (ossification) of the C7 neck vertebra. During the early development this fusion of the vertebra is re absorbed, hence failure to this may cause cervical rib. - [SWAY BACK POSTURE](https://physioqinesis.com/sway-back-posture/): Posture is the position of a body while standing or sitting.
